Become A Horse Chiropractor

Horse chiropractors, or equine chiropractors, adjust the alignment of a horse's spine.


Chiropractors treat problems of the musculoskeletal system. The basis for chiropractics is the belief that spinal misalignment interferes with the nervous system, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Instructions


1. Register for approved undergraduate courses. To apply to a chiropractic program, candidates must complete two to four years of undergraduate study. Coursework should include courses in English, physics and biology.


2. Apply to a chiropractic program. The Council on Chiropractic Education accredits chiropractic programs in the United States. Programs require the successful completion of 4,200 hours of laboratory, clinical and classroom work combined. Upon completion of an accredited program, candidates are awarded the degree Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.).


3. Apply for a license. Licensing is required by all states and the District of Columbia, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Each state establishes its own examination and education requirements. Most states require continuing education courses to maintain a license. The National Board of Chiropractic Examiners administers a four-part test that most states recognize for licensure.


4. Register and attend an ACCC approved animal chiropractic program. Certification candidates must complete a 20-hour program to apply for certification. Complete the program's exit examination and contact the ACCC to receive an Examination Candidate Handbook.


5. Apply for the ACCC examination. Candidates should successfully complete the examination within one year of successful completion of the 20-hour program. The examination includes two components: written and clinical. Once you fulfill the requirements, you will receive a three-year certification. Make sure you submit the requirements for recertification before your current certificate expires.
