If you're a night owl and a traditionally late riser, you'll probably have a tough time getting up early for school, work or special events. When it's necessary to wake at the sound of your alarm, use these strategies to keep your hand off the snooze button.
Instructions
1. Go to bed early to ensure you get plenty of sleep. It sounds obvious, but realize that there's no point in waking up early if you're be too sluggish to think clearly and be productive. Adopt the new bedtime at least a week before the big day to train yourself to fall asleep earlier.
2. Completely cover the "snooze" button on your alarm clock to prevent yourself from stalling in the morning. If possible, set two alarms, placing one clock so far away from your bed that you'll have to get up and walk over to turn it off.
3. Recruit an early-rising family member to help wake you up at the designated time. Instruct them not to leave your room until you're getting dressed or heading to the shower. Only use this method as a back up, however, and continue to set your alarm just in case the person forgets to wake you.
4. Give yourself something to look forward to in the morning. If your alarm goes off, you may actually be eager to wake up if you get to enjoy your favorite breakfast treat or put on a cool new outfit or accessory, for example.
5. Realize what the consequences will be if you sleep in. If it's necessary to get up early to take an important exam, lead a meeting at work, attend an expensive workshop or pick someone up at the airport, for example, visualize what will happen if you wake up and arrive late. Sometimes fear is a great motivator to help you rise in the morning.
