Cellulite Reducing Oils

For women of all shapes and sizes, cellulite can be hard to get rid of. Many factors can cause cellulite to appear including aging, weight gain, pregnancy and genetics. It is the result of fatty deposits in certain tissue areas and causes the dimpled appearance most often seen on thighs and buttocks. While exercising and adhering to a healthy diet may reduce the appearance of cellulite permanently, herbal oils can provide a temporary fix for the dimpled appearance.

Essential Oils

Essential oils help to reduce cellulite because many improve circulation, stimulate the lymph nodes and lymphatic system as well as reduce toxin buildup and excess water weight. While essential oils do not get rid of cellulite, they drastically reduce its appearance by increasing circulation to the skin and the fatty layer that contains cellulite.

Essential oils are often not applied to the skin directly, but through a carrier oil for easy application and safety. Carrier oils such as jojoba, olive, almond or avocado help to moisturize the skin while applying the healthy benefits of the essential oils. Look for organic or cold-pressed oils. Two to three drops of the essential oil to 1/2 cup of carrier oil is sufficient to receive the oil's health benefits.

Essential oils that are ideal for cellulite reduction include: juniper, which is used as a diuretic and purifier as well as a circulation stimulator; orange, which softens the top layer of the skin, reduces the appearance of cellulite and stimulates blood circulation and the lymphatic system; and rosemary, which increases blood flow to the body, reducing the appearance of cellulite. Rosemary oil also aids circulation, especially as it pertains to the extremities. It also helps with water retention and lymphatic stimulation. It's ideal for those with cellulite on the leg area.

One very effective cellulite reducing oil blend contains citrus oils such as lemon and orange, as well as cypress and juniper. Each of the oils works to increase circulation, relieve fluid retention and remove harmful toxins from the skin. Mix 2 to 3 drops of each essential oil and massage into the skin to reduce the appearance of cellulite. If you have sensitive skin, add 1/2 cup of a carrier oil for a more sensitive-skin-friendly application.

While you can use essential oils daily, those with sensitive skin should use them with caution to prevent skin irritation. Lemon oil in particular may cause irritation to some, so test it on a small area of the skin before using it for cellulite reduction.

Massaging areas with essential oils is also highly effective for reducing cellulite's appearance. Massage helps break up fatty areas, drains toxins from the body and increases circulation. Many massage treatments, such as body wraps with essential oils, also work to reduce the appearance of cellulite temporarily.

Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil is often used for a variety of purposes, one of which is giving skin a youthful appearance and bringing temporary relief to the skin from rashes or sunburns. To reduce the appearance of cellulite, apply a small amount of oil to the troublesome areas, and massage to break up fatty deposits. Aside from plumping up and softening the skin, the coconut oil will provide a temporary slimming appearance.
