Stomach cancer is both painful and debilitating, and it is difficult to diagnose. A diet rich in nitrates when coupled with Helicobacter pylori can lead to the creation of this cancer. There are surgical options and there are herbal remedies that may also be able to help. If you have just been diagnosed, try out some of these herbal methods to contain your condition.

Talk to your doctor or an integrated medical practitioner to ensure that the herbs you choose will not cause you any further complications. Since stomach cancer is most treatable when it is contained in the stomach before spreading, it is recommended that you take action immediately after diagnosis.

Diet and Nutrition

There are several things you can do with your routine to improve the effectiveness of stomach cancer herbs. You should avoid smoked, barbecued, salt-cured or pickled foods as they may contain the nitrates which led to your cancer in the first place. Take alcohol and tobacco out of your diet and add fish, nuts, broccoli, fruits and beans to your diet. Also, try shiitake mushrooms, as they can limit the production of your cancer cells.

Maitake

Maitake (Grifola frondosa) is a big mushroom that grows in the mountainous region of northeastern Japan. This mushroom in its herbal extract form has been known to reduce stress and improve the immune system. Most importantly, it has been connected to increasing the body's natural cancer-fighting abilities. Find this herbal remedy in the form of maitake D-fraction which can be taken in one 5-g dose per day. If you have multiple sclerosis, it is recommended that you do not take maitake.

Garlic

Garlic tablets that are coated with enteric can be taken to help your stomach cancer. Garlic includes compounds that can prevent the spread of your cancer to your lymph nodes. Garlic has antibacterial and antiviral properties, and it has been used in many combination immune system-improving herbal remedies. Try it in a dose of 900 mg per day for 3 to 4 weeks. Talk to your doctor if you take anticoagulant medications like warfarin (Coumadin), bifidus and lactobacillus cultures, or if you are considering surgery.

Andrographis

Andrographis, which is also known as Andrographis paniculata and king of bitters, can be found in the forests and wastelands of Asian countries like China and India. This herbal remedy has been used to fight infections, AIDS and the symptoms of cancer. It is thought that the remedy has cell-killing effects against cancer cells which can help it to stop stomach cancer cells from multiplying uncontrollably. Take 200 mg of the herb every day.

Sweet Violet

Sweet violet or Viola odorata has been used in various medical cultures for over 2,000 years. It was originally believed that the herb could control cancer growths on the skin, but there has been little proof to back of that claim. British herbal medicine often prescribes the flowers and leaves of the sweet violet to treat stomach and breast cancer. Try the remedy as an herbal infusion three times a day. Create the infusion by pouring a cup of boiling water onto 1 tsp. of the herb and steeping for 10 to 15 minutes.

Where to Buy

Many of these herbal remedies can be purchased online or at a natural foods store. It is recommended that you go to a local shop where you are familiar with the owner and employees. This way you can ensure that you are getting the best possible product for your condition.
