Castor oil was often depicted in Looney Tunes cartoons as a horrible punishment for those who were bad. Actually, castor oil has health benefits. Its bad reputation comes from is use in folk medicine. Catsor oil was used as a purgative as a cure-all for many common ailments. The oil is extracted from the seeds in the castor plant and has no smell or taste.


Constipation


The most popular use for castor oil is to alleviate constipation. When stubborn constipation is not responding to fiber laxatives, castor oil is an effective treatment.


Hair Loss


A small percentage of hair loss is caused by fungal and microbial infections on the scalp. Castor oil has properties that have proven effective in the treatment of germs, microbes and fungus.


Menstrual Cramps


The ricinoleic acid contained in castor oil has healing properties. It can help reduce pain caused by menstruation by applying it externally to your abdomen.


Skin Care


Undecylenic acid is another germicidal component of castor oil. When applied to skin conditions that are caused by fungus and bacteria, this acid helps in successful treatment.


Rheumatism


The fatty acids contained in castor oil are known to relieve symptoms of gout, arthritis and rheumatism. Use castor oil and apply it directly on the afflicted area of the body. It will be absorbed through the skin.
