Naturally Get Better Sleep

Everyone needs a good night's sleep. Some need more than others, but we all want quality sleep. Here are some quick and easy steps to getting better sleep.

Instructions

1. WEAR YOURSELF OUT:

Here's your best route to better sleep. Get moving and busy during the day. Simply put, wear yourself out. Get tired physically and mentally. I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out that if you are tired you will sleep. So get up, get going and get tired.

2. GET INTO A ROUTINE:

Your body is designed to work by routine as though set by a clock. Get into a healthy habit of going to sleep and getting up at the same time each day. Your body will quickly accept this routine as the normal procedure and willingly cooperate with your sleep pattern. Many studies and tests have proven that people with a routine simply sleep better.

3. CREATE A SLEEP CONDUCIVE ENVIRONMENT:

It's also been proven that our environment affects our quality of sleep. Your bedroom should be cool, quiet, dark and pleasant. Your bed should be comfortable and not overly crowded. Your bed clothes should be light and loose fitting. A better environment means better sleep.

4. DON'T EAT RIGHT BEFORE BED:

If you eat right before bed, your body has to work to digest that food, thus your body is not in a state of rest. The rule is to not eat anything at least an hour before bed.

5. DON'T EXERCISE RIGHT BEFORE BED:

If you exercise right before bed, your body will be in no shape for sleep. Your metabolism will be raging, your heartbeat quickened and your body temperature elevated. Another rule of thumb, don't exercise at least two hours before bed.

6. DON'T GET OVERSTIMULATED RIGHT BEFORE BED:

Not only does your body need time to cool down and prepare for better sleep, but your mind needs this opportunity as well. Avoid overly stimulating activity before bed. This might include action movies or TV shows, paying bills, doing homework, working on a project, etc. Take some time to slow down and allow your mind to ease into sleep mode.
