Cure Mite Bites

A relative of the tick, mites are insect-like organisms, according to the Illinois Department of Health. While some mites feed on plants or other insects, others feed on animals, including humans. These mites bite humans, which leads to skin irritation, including itching. The irritation is caused by saliva secreted when the parasites latch onto the skin. While some mite bites, such as scabies and those resulting in severe allergic reaction, may require medical attention, others are treatable at home.

Instructions

1. Lather the washcloth with hot water and an antibacterial soap. Gently and thoroughly cleanse the affected area with the soapy washcloth. Rinse the area clean with warm, clear water. Pat the area dry with a clean towel.

2. Wrap the ice pack in the second dry towel. Place the ice pack on the affected area for 10 minutes. Remove the pack for 10 minutes. Replace the pack for another 10 minutes, and remove it again.

3. Apply a hydrocortisone cream to the affected area. This will relieve the itching associated with the bites. Alternatively, take an oral antihistamine.
