Ethyl alcohol makes up 63 percent of Germ-X. Ethyl alcohol, also known as ethanol or grain alcohol, is an organic compound. The Food and Drug Administration recommends that 60 to 95 percent of a hand sanitizer must be alcohol to kill bacteria and germs. It dissolves after 15 seconds.
Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer
The second ingredient on the Germ-X ingredient list is Acrylates/C10-30. It is a film-forming agent, which leaves a smooth covering or coating on the skin. It is water-binding and may also function as a weak skin sensitizer.
Benzophenone-4
Benzophenone-4 is an ingredient that protects skin from UVB and short-wave UVA light. It also helps a product maintain its color and helps form a protective layer on the skin.
Fragrance with Vitamin E (Tocopherol)
Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps protect cell membranes to beautify your skin. It is an anti-aging vitamin. Vitamin E is found in many plants and foods including corn oil, soybean oil, nuts and seeds and leafy greens.

Glycerin is a colorless, thick liquid. It absorbs water from the air. When mixed with water, another ingredient in Germ-X, it adds moisture to and softens your skin.

Water is another inactive ingredient in Germ-X. It is liquid and often combined with other ingredients to add substance.
