Ancient Facial Massage Secrets

You can trace facial massage back to ancient times. Many believed in the healing properties of facial massage. Each type of facial massage concentrates on a particular muscle group, tissue group or sensation. Today many of these ancient techniques are still taught and used. Some of the ancient facial massages still in use today include Tui Na, Shiatsu, Ko Bi Do and facial cupping.

Tui Na

Tui Na facial massage, also known as the "Medical Facial Massage," concentrates on relieving pain from problem areas. This massage makes use of the hands and acupuncture technique to relieve pain.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu facial massage, also known as finger-pressure massage, concentrates on applying pressure through the fingers to various pressure points. The fingers are rolled back and forth slowly to provide a deep massage to those areas. This motion is believed to unblock the pressure and release any dysfunction caused by the build-up.

Ko Bi Do

Ko Bi Do facial massage was created based on the hot streams that existed throughout ancient Japan. Various round, hollow rocks called "Yen" surrounded these streams. The rocks absorbed the heat from the streams and reached temperatures just below the boiling point. Placing the warm rocks around various places on the face was believed to absorb negative energy and pain from those areas.

Facial Cupping

Facial cupping is an ancient facial massage technique that uses a special "facial cup" to suction the face. This suction action is said to bring impediments to the surface and smooth wrinkles by increasing blood circulation in those areas. Moving the cup around the face allows various areas to receive the suction treatment during the same session.
