Care For A Power Chair

A power chair can be a necessity for a person who cannot walk around on his own. They also cost quite a bit of money, so it's important to take very good care of your power chair. Performing simple maintenance on your chair throughout the years can keep it running properly, which can save you money on repairs and keep you safe.


Instructions








1. Clean the seat of your power chair once a week with a regular dish cloth or towel. Get the towel wet and wipe the seat off thoroughly. Then, wipe the seat with a dry cloth to finish cleaning. You can also spray the chair with a disinfectant, but be sure to avoid spraying electrical parts.


2. Inspect the wiring on the chair regularly. Make sure the wires are connected tightly and that there is no dirt on the wires. If there is dirt on the wires, you can wipe them gently with a dry wire. Tighten any connections that you feel are necessary, or take the power chair into a service center.


3. Tighten the screws on the movable parts of the chair once a month. The screws on parts such as the movable armrests and footrests will loosen in time.


4. Change your wheels as soon as they become damaged. Using your power chair on sidewalks and roads can cause cracks in the wheels, which can make the chair unsafe to use. If you don't know change the wheels on your power chair, take it into a store.


5. Charge the batteries of your power chair after every use. Just as with a cell phone, it is recommended that you do not allow the batteries of your power chair to completely die. Charging the batteries after every use will prevent them from dying.
