Side Effects Of Phentremine

Phentermine is an appetite suppressant prescribed for the treatment of obesity. You will be prescribed phentermine short-term to help you lose weight and develop new ways of exercising and eating. This drug goes by various brand names including Adipex, Bontril, Didrex, Meridia and Fastin. If you are taking phentermine, you must see your doctor regularly to ensure no serious side effects are developing.

Dizziness

Phentermine can make you less alert. It can also cause lightheadedness and dizziness. You should know how your body reacts to phentermine before your drive, operate machinery or do any activity that requires mental clarity. Dizziness and lightheadedness should be reported to your physician.

Personality

Phentermine may make you feel excited, have a false sense of well-being, feel irritable, experience paranoia or hallucinate. Other changes include a decreased sex drive, feeling nervous or restless, mental depression and insomnia. While these side effects are rare, if you experience them you should talk to your doctor. Your dosage may be decreased or discontinued.

Pulmonary/Cardiovascular

Phentermine can cause an irregular or fast heartbeat and increase blood pressure. Chest pain may be felt while taking this drug, particularly when exercising. Trembling and shaking may occur. This drug may also cause fainting and numbness in the face. All pulmonary and cardiovascular side effects should be reported to your physician promptly.

Dry Mouth

Phentermine can cause a bad taste or dryness in your mouth. Sugarless gum or candy can be chewed to help keep your mouth moist. If dry mouth continues after two weeks of taking the medication, a doctor should be consulted. A continual dry mouth increases the chance of developing fungus infections and dental disease.

Stomach

Phentermine can cause nausea and vomiting. Stomach cramps, constipation and/or diarrhea may develop when taking this medication. Drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day to stay dehydrated and keep your bowels moving.

Other Side Effects

Headache, blurred vision and increased sweating can occur while taking phentermine. You may experience a frequent urge to urinate and/or have difficulty trying to urinate. Fatigue and weakness may develop between doses when the drug has worn off. Having vivid dreams and/or nightmares can occur while taking this drug.
