Select Paint Colors For A Craft Room

Choosing paint color is a fun science

Color has the power to soothe, to revitalize and even to inspire. It can also depress, anger and squash creativity. Choosing a color for a craft room is not only an aesthetic decision but a strategic one. The right color can help you become more productive and keep you happier within your space.

Instructions

1. Choose a paint that inspires you.

Research the power of color. Colors can affect your state of mind. Depending on your craft, you may wish to have a calming color such as blue or perhaps an exciting color like orange. There are even colors that combine elements of different meanings such as turquoise. Other colors worthy of your consideration for a craft room are yellow (mentally stimulating), red (promotes action and confidence) or purple (encourages creativity).

2. Use a color wheel as a point of reference when choosing secondary colors.

Consider color relationships when picking a color scheme. This can be done easily by using a color wheel as a reference. Harmonizing colors are directly next to each other on the color wheel. Contrasting colors are directly across from each other on the color wheel.

3. Choose a paint color that makes you happy.

Choose a color that you like. If you have a craft room, chances are you are serious enough about your craft(s) that you spend a good deal of time in there. If blue is said to be the best color for creative minds but you aren't fond of blue, it is not going to be the right choice for you.

4. Paint swatches are free and come in a variety of sizes.

Try the colors out. There are large paint color swatches that now have sticky backs so you can stand back and admire (or not) your chosen palette. Or, you could take it a step further and purchase the tiny sample paint pots some stores offer so you can paint a small amount of your walls or surfaces with the sample paint to get a feel for how it works in your craft room.
