Treat Diaper Rash With Baking Soda

Using baking soda on your baby's diaper rash may help soothe the affected area.

Your baby may be healthy most of the time, but almost any baby can develop a diaper rash. Diaper rash occurs when a baby is left in a dirty diaper for too long. Other causes may include a sensitivity to baby wipes or soap. Diaper rash can be frustrating for you and your baby. Fortunately, there are many home remedies that may help the diaper rash to go away. One such remedy is a baking soda bath.

Instructions

1. Fill the tub that you usually use for your baby's bath with warm water. Do not let the water get too hot; this may irritate the diaper rash more.

2. Measure out 2 tbsp. of baking soda, and pour them into the warm water. Use your hand to mix the baking soda in with the water.

3. Place your baby in the baking soda bath, and allow him to sit in it for approximately 10 minutes per day. Continue this until the rash disappears.

4. Examine your baby's mouth if the diaper rash does not go away. If you notice white spots in his mouth, he may have thrush, a yeast infection that can cause diaper rash. If you suspect this, mix 1 tsp. of baking soda with a cup of water. Dab your finger or a cotton swab into the mixture, and apply it to the inside of the baby's mouth. This may help eliminate thrush.
