Good Mood Diet Foods

Your diet can positively affect your mood.

Most people would be surprised to know just how much the food they eat affects their mood and overall attitude. Eating a healthy diet will not only help you to lose weight but can raise your energy level, improve your productivity and fight depression. You will be surprised at how many changes you'll see when you take the first step to a healthier lifestyle.

Carbohydrates

Complex carbohydrates help to maintain a normal sugar level in your body. Eating a balanced diet with whole grains and other unrefined sources of carbohydrates will help you sustain energy all day long. This can affect your overall mood and make you a more energetic, happier person. Brown rice, whole wheat pasta and bread, and potatoes are good examples of carbohydrate sources.

High-sugar junk food is not an adequate source of carbohydrates. Sugar is absorbed too fast, will not stay in your system for long, and will instead cause a crash in energy, which will result in drowsiness and fatigue.

Green Veggies

Green vegetables are what some would call a miracle food. They contain tons of B vitamins, which boost cell metabolism. Many veggies are high in fiber but low in calories, which means that they not only speed through the digestive system but also takes out anything in their path. That is why vegetables are considered a great food if you are on a diet. B vitamins also support memory function, can help migraines and lead to an overall better mood.

Meat and Protein

White meat has a few less calories than dark meat, but contains fewer essential nutrients. Red meat plays an important role in building muscle, making it an ideal choice if you are recovering from some kind of injury or accident.

When eating red meat, it is important to choose meat labeled as "lean." Many cuts of red meat are high in fat and can cause lethargy as well as health problems, including high cholesterol.

If you cannot or choose not to eat red meat, there are other options, such as soy (soybeans or variations of soy, including tofu and tempeh), that are protein-rich. Nuts, particularly almonds, contain a high level of protein as well.
